Fundraising Preference Service provider announced

The Fundraising Regulator has announced that Syrenis Ltd will provide the database and telephone service for the Fundraising Preference Service.

Syrenis won a competitive tendering process which saw six firms bid for the contract. The regulator said Syrenis was chosen because of the strength of The Preference Centre, an existing product which will be built upon for the FPS.

Previous experience of working with call centres and the high level of cyber-security built into their products also counted in IT firm’s favour, the regulator said.

The FPS will enable people to opt out of communications from a particular charity or charities. Opt outs will apply to all forms of communication with a named individual, including email, text, telephone and addressed mail.

The service will be IT-based, but have telephone support for those who need it.

Fundraising Regulator chief executive Stephen Dunmore said it is essential the service operates as smoothly and securely as possible.

“FPS will help individuals take control of their communication with charities,” Dunmore said. “It is a vital step in rebuilding trust between the public and the sector, although it is not the only answer and more will need to be done to ensure that charity fundraising is carried out to the highest standards.”

The Fundraising Preference Service was one of a number of recommendations made in Sir Stuart Etherington’s review of the self-regulation of fundraising, which launched after a series of controversies beset the sector.
