Fund that previously attracted 800 applications reopens

A second round of funding is to take place for a grant scheme that attracted 800 applications for its initial round.

The scheme is run by housebuilder Persimmon’s charitable foundation and offers two grants of £50,000 in each funding round.

During the first-round funding went to Thanet Community Development Trust in Kent for its project helping people to obtain the qualifications needed to work in construction, and the other grant was made to Bothwell Futures in South Lanarkshire to fund its youth employability programme.

This week the funder has announced a second round of funding will take place, once again offering two grants of £50,000 to youth employability projects.

It is focused on supporting the employability of young people aged 14 to 25 in areas of economic and social deprivation and the deadline is Sunday, June 22. Successful applicants will be notified in August.

“We are focusing on projects that support employability among 14 to 25-year-olds to attract applications from charities whose objectives align with our own,” said Foundation chair Anthony Vigor.

“The successful applicants will be working with young people to support them in their education, or into training or work.”

Funding is for registered charities only. Those that applied but were unsuccessful in the first funding round may apply again.

Community groups and other charitable organisations are encouraged to apply for funding through Persimmon plc’s Community Champions scheme, which is separate from the Foundation’s charitable giving
