WDC, Whale and Dolphin Conservation, is the leading global charity dedicated to the conservation and protection of whales and dolphins. We’ve been working across the globe for the last 30 years to defend these remarkable creatures against the many threats they face through campaigns, lobbying, advising governments, conservation projects, field research and rescue.

We’ve been lucky enough to work with the fantastic teams at Humble Bundle and PayPal Giving Fund for the last few years and, since 2017, we have received over £1 million from PayPal Giving Fund, thanks to donations from Humble Bundle and on other platforms.

This relationship began in 2014, when WDC was chosen on Humble Bundle – a leading online store for games and other digital content – as the benefitting charity for a Bundle on SEGA games. We’d never worked with the video games industry before this, so it was a huge (and wonderful!) surprise for us to be asked to be involved. This marked the start of an exciting relationship with the Humble Bundle and PayPal Giving Fund that has had an amazing, positive impact on our work.

Since our first Bundle, we’ve been delighted to have been chosen as a charity partner for several other promotions on Humble Bundle, including being part of the fantastic Jingle Jam events run by our friends at The Yogscast in 2016 and 2017 – which generated the two biggest donations we’ve had in our 30-year history!

The support we’ve received from Humble Bundle also inspired us to find ways to engage our new-found supporters in the gaming community and their encouragement gave us the confidence to run our first ever gaming event, Gamers for Orcas, in 2017.

Since we started working with Humble Bundle and PayPal Giving Fund we’ve been amazed at the increased interest in and support for our work from the gaming community in particular.

So many people from developers and studios to streamers and players, are genuinely passionate about ocean conservation and our mission to keep whales and dolphins safe and free, and want to find a way to help. The support of Humble Bundle and PayPal Giving Fund has therefore made an enormous positive difference to WDC, not just by raising much-needed funds to support our work but also by helping us to reach hundreds of thousands of people with information about our cause – people who we know may never have found us in any other way.

As well as enabling us to reach new supporters on Humble Bundle, through PayPal Giving Fund we’ve also able been able to connect with buyers and sellers on eBay. We’ve been the featured charity on eBay’s checkout on three occasions in the last 2 years and have been excited to see the donations from this grow each time as more of our supporters, and eBay’s customers, get involved.

We are so grateful to be working with the teams at Humble Bundle and PayPal Giving Fund – their generous support is directly helping to save the lives of whales and dolphins all over the world and they, and their customers/donors, share in each and every one of our successes.
