British Postal Museum & Archive chair Dr Helen Forde is to stand down this year, ahead of her term concluding in 2016.
A trustee since the charity was founded in 2004 and chair from 2011, Forde is stepping down early to allow the longest possible window to identify a successor and ensure plans for The Postal Museum with Mail Rail remain on track for an opening at the end of 2016.
BPMA is the public identity of the Postal Heritage Trust, which works to make the Royal Mail archive and the trust’s collection accessible as widely as possible.
The role of chair will be advertised soon.
Forde said ending her term early serves the best interests of the organisation and will allow it to continue with minimum disruption.
“With a new Chairman, the BPMA has an opportunity to bring new skills to its leadership, skills that will be essential as the organisation undergoes massive transformation over the next two years. I will continue to be actively involved in its work and look forward to supporting the new Chairman once in post.”
