Esmee Fairbairn Foundation is investing 7.4m to uplift grants it made in or before this year and where work is ongoing into January 2023.
The move is to support charities amid the cost-of-living crisis, with the funder saying “we hope that this additional contribution” will support charities “to make progress in difficult times”.
“We also want to reiterate the flexibility of our support,” it added.
“This includes, where helpful, moving payment dates, and offering a call rather than a written report.”
“The payment will represent 10% of Esmée’s most recent grant payment made in 2022 as well as any further outstanding grant payments (capped at a maximum payment of £60,000).”
In recognition of the extraordinary rise in the cost of living over the past year, we will be offering an uplift payment for most grants made in or before 2022, where work is ongoing in January 2023 and is being affected by rising costs👇https://t.co/3vYzUPONMV

The funder will write to organisations it is supporting with more details in the week beginning of 23 January.
Earlier this month research by IVAR among charity leaders called for funders to do more to specifically help charities tackle recruitment and retention challenges amid the cost of living crisis.
Charity leaders who spoke to researchers warned of exhaustion and wellbeing concerns amid their workforce.
