The Chartered Institute of Fundraising (CIoF) ’s policy and communications director Daniel Fluskey is leaving after a decade in senior policy roles at the organisation.
He joined the CIoF in January 2013 as its head of policy and external affairs and was promoted to the role of director for policy and communications in April last year.
In a statement Fluskey said he is moving on to “a different role at a new organisation” in September. The CIoF is now advertising for Fluskey’s £60,000 a year role.
“Over my 10 years here I hope I’ve helped fundraisers navigate big regulatory changes as I worked closely with the Fundraising Regulator as it was being set up and with transfer of the Code of Fundraising Practice, as well as helping fundraisers to get to grips with GDPR,” he said.
He added: “I’ve also relished the chance to speak up about fundraising to civil servants, government ministers, and the Information Commissioner, as well as appear on BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Sky news channels to respond when prominent stories concerning fundraising and charities have been in the public eye.”
Media storm
Over the last two years the CIoF has faced a raft of negative media coverage over its response to allegations of sexual harassment.
This includes accusations that the CIoF was “gaslighting” victims, after the allegations emerged in 2021, and failing to deal with complaints swiftly and effectively.
Members accused the organisation of having “lost its way” following its controversial handling of the scandal.
In August 2022 the CIoF upheld four allegations of sexual harassment and issued an apology to victims.
Fundraising consultant Bill Giles quit his role as associate fundraising consultant at consultancy Action Planning in October lasrt year after being named in an article in the national media concerning the allegations of sexual harassment.
Last year Refuge and its chief executive Ruth Davison severed links with the Chartered Institute of Fundraising (CIoF) due to ongoing concerns over the safety of women following the sexual misconduct scandal.
