Burke’s Peerage Foundation probed amid links with royal cash for honours charity

The Charity Commission has opened a statutory inquiry into Burke’s Peerage Foundation amid concerns around the finances of the charity.

The regulator is investigating the aristocratic genealogy and heritage charity after it was linked with the Mahfouz Foundation, which is being investigated amid a scandal involving cash for honours allegations to engulf the Prince of Wales’ charity trust Prince’s Foundation.

"The Commission has been in contact with the trustees since February 2022 after a separate inquiry into another charity, The Mahfouz Foundation, identified links with Burke’s Peerage Foundation," said the regulator.

The Mahfouz Foundation is the subject of a statutory inquiry by the Charity Commission after concerns were raised that it received donations intended for Prince Charles’ charity.

The Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) is looking into allegations that donations for the Prince’s charity had been used to influence the heir to the British throne.

The Charity Commission’s investigation into the Burke’s Peerage Foundation has been launched after a “review of the charity’s bank statements and a comparison against its published accounts”.

The investigation will look at whether trustees are complying with their legal duties and the charity is meeting its obligations around its finances.
