New Shelter chief executive announced

Polly Neate will take over as chief executive at Shelter from the summer, the charity has announced.

Neate is currently chief executive of Women’s Aid, after joining the organisation in 2013. Women’s Aid will start recruitment for a replacement soon, and operate as usual over the transition.

Shelter Scotland director Graeme Brown has been interim chief executive since Campbell Robb stepped down last year.

Neate’s time at Women’s Aid has seen her lead on initiatives including securing legislation to criminalise coercive and controlling behaviour, and winning a total of £33m in new Government funding for refuges.

The outgoing chief executive said it has been a “huge privilege” to head up Women’s Aid for the past four years.

“I am so proud of what we have achieved. Most of all, I am proud of the talented team here, and the incredible survivors and services that are at the heart of our work,” Neate said. “The values which I came to Women’s Aid with have been nurtured by the organisation, and they will continue to inform everything that I do in my new role.”
