The British Red Cross is implementing a new digital transformation programme, designed to remove the administrative burden on its workforce and improve the experience of more than 14,000 staff and volunteers.
The charity has appointed digital agency Impression to help redesign key people processes after gathering feedback from employees and volunteers on how internal systems could better support their work.
The project will focus on simplifying everyday HR tasks, including managing rotas, annual leave and payroll, with the aim of enabling staff and volunteers to spend less time on administration and more time delivering frontline services.
In 2025, the British Red Cross supported communities across the UK through emergency response, health and care services, refugee support and other humanitarian programmes, with more than 4,000 employees and 10,000 volunteers.
British Red Cross head of product, Paul Remic, said the organisation wanted to build systems around the needs of its people.
“Impression’s expertise in finding better ways of users interacting with our platforms will enable Red Cross staff to spend less time on administration and more time supporting our front line," he said.
“We can find all those pain points which create frequent frustrations, so we can do something about it and improve our user experience.”
The transformation is also expected to improve collaboration between the charity’s central teams and its retail network, while increasing engagement with internal digital platforms.
