Scottish charity regulator appoints its former policy chief as chair

The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator has appointed its former policy chief to chair its board.

Marieke Dwarshuis was head of charities/policy and development at the regulator for almost five years until 2010, when she left to join campaign organisation Consumer Focus Scotland as its director.

For the last decade she has held several board level roles, including at Food Standards Scotland.

In addition to her role at the OSCR she will continue to serve on the boards of the Scottish Housing Regulator, NHS 24, Scottish Legal Aid Board and be a lay assistant for the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland.

Her appointment at the OSCR is for four years and starts this week. She replaces interim chair George Walker.

"I am delighted to have been appointed as Chair of OSCR for the coming four years,” she said.

“Charity regulation is pivotal in maintaining and increasing public confidence in the charities that play a vital role in Scottish society and the lives of many and in enabling them to deliver strong outcomes, and I feel privileged to be able to contribute to that.

“I very much look forward to working with colleagues on the board and the staff team and with our stakeholders in the coming months to develop the OSCR’s strategy over the coming years."
