Scottish billionaire’s foundation names next CEO

The Wood Foundation, which was launched in 2007 by Scottish billionaire Ian Wood and his family, has appointed Sarah Chew as its next chief executive.

She joins the Aberdeen based funder after 15 years as managing director of TechFest in the city.

“It is a privilege to take on the role of the UK CEO of The Wood Foundation, said Chew.

“I have long been inspired by the impactful work of the organisation in Aberdeen and across Scotland.

“I am excited to build on its legacy and champion innovative approaches that create meaningful and sustainable change.”

She is also a board member for both Aberdeen Council of Voluntary Organisations and Developing Young Workforce North East.

The Wood Foundation backs projects and organisation across three strands at home and abroad.

These are Venture philanthropy transforming livelihoods in Sub Saharan Africa, developing young people in Scotland, and facilitating economic development in Scotland.

The Foundation’s chair Garreth Wood added: “Sarah brings a wealth of experience, insight, and fresh perspectives which I know will complement and enhance the exceptional skills and dedication already within The Wood Foundation team.

“I am confident that she will provide strong leadership, working closely with the Board of Trustees to deliver on our strategy and further strengthen the Foundation’s impact across Scotland.”

Ian Wood founded global engineering and consulting company Wood Group, which is also headquartered in Aberdeen.
