OSCR’s transparency changes come into force this month

From next week the Office of the Scottish Charity Register will publish the full names of charity trustees.

The move brings it in line with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, which already published these details.

The changes take effect from 9 March when trustees first and last names will be displayed on the OSCR’s charity register entry.

In addition, every account document submitted to the regulator as part of a charity’s online annual return will be published in full, without any redactions.

Other information to be published include a description of what the charity does in its own words as well the number of staff and volunteers.

“These changes are designed to improve transparency across the charity sector in Scotland,” said the OSCR.

Charities will be able to update their trustee information anytime using the OSCR’ website.

The regulator said that no other personal information will be published about trustees, even though this information is collected for regulatory purposes.
