Great Ormond Street Hospital charity’s major fundraising events including its RBC Race for the Kids event this autumn, are to remain virtual due to ongoing concerns around Covid-19.

RBC Race for the Kids London has raised nearly £8m since it launched in 2009 and usually takes place each year in Hyde Park.

But the event was pivoted as a global virtual race in 2020 due to the pandemic and involved 33,000 participations from more than 120 countries.

The charity has announced that the same virtual arrangement will happen again this year.

“With COVID-19 still ongoing, GOSH Charity's major fundraising events are remaining virtual,” the charity said.

For this year’s event a RBC Race for the Kids app has been developed to help “create an engaging and immersive race day experience”.

The charity added: “The event may not be taking place at London’s Hyde Park this year but, instead you can create your own thrilling race day.

“Link your fundraising page to Strava, Fitbit or mapmyrun to record any training you do prior to the event.

“We’ll also send you lots of fun and exciting things that will turn your virtual RBC Race for the Kids into a day to remember.”
