Grants of up to £20,000 each are being made available to youth-led charities “who are fighting for climate justice”.

The Roots and Routes Fund has been set up by funders, OVO Foundation, The Co-op Foundation, The Blagrave Trust and Energy Saving Trust’s Foundation.

Also involved is climate advisory organisation Impatience Earth.

The closing date for applications is Monday 2 June. A webinar is taking place on 28 April for interested organisations.

The funding scheme defines a youth led organisation as one where a minimum if 55% of its leadership are aged between 18 and 30.

Another requirement is that 55% of people who lead the organisation share the characteristics of communities impacted by climate injustice or re underrepresented in the climate justice sector.

This includes those experiencing racial injustice, with disabilities, women, and from LGBTQIA and working-class communities.

During the initial pilot stage of the funding grants will be provided for one-year.

The funders add: “If you are successful with your 1st stage application, we will invite you to a call with us in June 2025 to learn more about your youth-led organisation and your climate justice work.

“You can expect this call to last up to approximately one hour. Two weeks in advance of your call, we will send you more information about what we will discuss so that you can prepare – we’re not here to put you on the spot.

“We hope to contact all applicants on the 4th of July 2025 with a decision on their application, alongside feedback for unsuccessful applicants.
