A charity that supports families impacted by the Grenfell tragedy has launched an appeal for funding “to avoid permanent closure”.
North Kensington, London, based Nova New Opportunities has been supporting people in the area for 43 years.
This includes running its family programme that was launched in direct response to the Grenfell Tower block fire in 2017 when over 70 people died and more than 70 were injured.
This originally supported 250 people and has since developed into a community programme with more than 1,000 people taking part in its activities each year
The charity said that while it had successfully raised £15,000 by mid-May of its £100,000 fundraising target it has warned that “we now need to raise a further £35,000 in the second half of May and £50,000 in June to avoid permanent closure”.
According to the charities register it spent £802,144 in the financial year ending March 2025, however over this period its income was £725,266. Its spending also outstripped its income in the 12 months to March 2022 and March 2023.
The charity added: “We love our work supporting tens of thousands of local people and families over four decades through popular classes for children and adults; life-enhancing activities for young people and families; expert advice for those facing serious issues such as poverty or homelessness; and initiatives that bring people together from all walks of life to build stronger communities.
“Our services have never felt more needed. But now, they are at risk of being drastically cut or shut down if we cannot raise this funding.”
