Small charities urged to apply for £747,000 in remaining NET Covid recovery funding

The National Emergencies Trust (NET) is urging small charities and groups to apply for £747,000 in remaining Coronavirus Appeal funding.

The money is still available through the £1.2m Local Action Fund, a match funding partnership with the platform Crowdfunder UK to help counter the impact of the pandemic on local projects, said NET.

“With ongoing restrictions likely to impact charities’ fundraising efforts, while increasing demand for their services, the National Emergencies Trust is urging groups that have not yet benefited from the Coronavirus Appeal to apply to the Local Action Fund,” said NET in a statement.

Those looking to apply can set up a fundraising campaign on the Crowdfunder UK platform and the NET will match donations up to £10,000.

Since the Local Action Fund launched in September last year more than 100 projects have signed up to start fundraising.

NET chief executive Mhairi Sharp said: “The Local Action Fund was launched to help small local projects to get back on their feet after the challenges of the pandemic and remains as relevant as ever following the latest measures announced in December.

“We’ve decided to keep the Fund open so that those in need of a financial boost, either for new projects or to cover core costs, don’t miss out at this difficult time.”

The plea for charities to access the Local Action Fund comes as the NET publishes its annual report. This found that during 2021/21 more than 13,000 grants were awarded.

To date the Appeal has raised more than £99.5m.
