Become CEO to lead Gordon Brown’s anti-poverty charity

The chief executive of care experienced children’s charity Become is to lead The Multibank, the charity set up by former Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Amazon to donate goods to families living in poverty.

Katharine Sacks-Jones has led Become since 2019 and takes up her new role as chief executive of The Multibank in August.

The Multibank has been set up to connect firms that have surplus goods to local charity partners to distribute to people in need “reducing the effects of poverty and contributing to a sustainable economy”, according to the charity.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be joining The Multibank. I’m inspired by the incredible impact the charity has already had, helping thousands of families in need whilst contributing to a sustainable economy,” said Sacks-Jones.

“With rising poverty across the UK, the support that The Multibank provides is more vital than ever for people struggling to afford even the essentials.

“I’m excited to work alongside our partners, supporters, and the local Multibanks to make a real, lasting difference in the lives of families experiencing poverty."

She added: I will still be in my role at Become for the next few months and recruitment for my successor will kick off soon.”

Prior to joining Become Sacks-Jones was chief executive of women and girls’ alliance Agenda. She also spent six years at Crisis, in senior policy roles.

Multibank chair Eric Salama said: “We are delighted to welcome Katharine and look forward to working with her and supporting her as she leads our Multibank charity coalition into the next stage of our mission.

“Last year we helped over 300,000 families and our ambition is to make a sustainable difference to many more going forward.”
