BTCV CEO announces decision to step down

BTCV, the leading conservation volunteering group, has today announced that Tom Flood, CBE, chief executive of the BTCV Group, has decided to step down from the post in July 2012.

Tom recently celebrated 25 years’ service with BTCV and has been Group Chief Executive since 2001.

Under his leadership, the Group’s income has increased from £16m to £40m and BTCV currently supports over half a million people each year to take practical action to improve their lives and their environment.

Rita Clifton, chair of the BTCV Board, commented: “We obviously understand Tom’s decision to step down after so many successful years at the helm, and are delighted that he has agreed to become a Vice President in July.

"We very much hope that in his new role he will continue to actively support the 2012 Appeal ‘Reclaiming Green Places for All ‘ and other initiatives. Tom has made an extraordinary contribution to BTCV and his efforts have been widely recognised”

Tom Flood commented: “After 25 years with BTCV, the past 10 of which as Chief Executive, it now feels the right time for me to hand over the reins to a successor. I am extremely proud of BTCV’s achievements during this time, and I look forward, as a Vice President , to playing a part in the exciting plans for the organisation in 2012 and beyond.”

Commenting further, Rita Clifton added: “These are very challenging times for the voluntary sector, and BTCV is not immune to these pressures.

"However, the work of BTCV has never been more needed to transform people’s lives, prospects and communities through creating and managing green places together. We will be searching for a successor to Tom, from both internal and external candidates, to take on this very important and rewarding role."
