Charities given access to £150k funding to support housing and community work

Five charities have each been awarded £30,000 to help support vulnerable people through housing and community work.

The grants were awarded through Leeds Building Society’s Fund 150 scheme, marking the Society’s 150th anniversary with a total donation of £150,000.

The recipients are Handcrafted Projects in Sunderland, Roshni in Birmingham, YMCA Exeter, Latch in Leeds, and Rowan Alba in Edinburgh.

The funding is unrestricted, allowing charities to use it where it's needed most, from providing safe housing to essential support services for those experiencing homelessness or abuse.

“We’re pleased to be able to offer this funding in our 150th year and celebrate our mutual roots by giving back to communities and empowering people across the UK into safe and secure housing,” said Leeds Building Society corporate affairs lead, John Brenan.

“We’re delighted to award £30,000 to each of these organisations in unrestricted funding and look forward to seeing the positive impact the funding will create.”

Handcrafted Projects business development manager, Jack Perrin added that the funding “will enable us to provide holistic support and a safe place to call home to another 20 individuals facing multiple, complex challenges".
