V&A strike action called off following improved pay offer

Strike action by union members working at Victoria and Albert Museum have called off strike action that was due to take place this week (29-30 October).

The action by members of Prospect and the Public and Commercial Services Union had been called during the school half term holiday over pay and working conditions.

It was to have been the third round of industrial action and the first to impact all four sites, V&A South Kensington, V&A East, V&A Storehouse and Young V&A.

But following the improved offer the action has been suspended.

PCS said that negotiations will now take place and should these “fail to produce a deal that is acceptable to our members” it will “announce further strike action”.

The union said the improved offer on pay follows negotiations already taking place “over the provision of water bottles and adequate seating for front of house staff at V&A Storehouse”.

“PCS members are demanding a reasonable pay award and London Living Wage accreditation,” they add.

“They are also looking for heat mitigation measures, improved food offers at the East sites and a new industrial relations framework.”
