Social inclusion funder hands £173,000 in micro grants to small charities

More than £170,000 in micro grants have been handed to small charities by the VINCI UK Foundation.

The grant giver, which is the charitable arm of energy and construction firm VINCI Group, has handed the grants to charities for social inclusion projects as part of its annual award scheme.

This includes operating costs, building and designing facilities, training as well as support around employment, housing and access to leisure issues.

The grants of between £3,000 and £15,000 total £173,166 and have been handed to 36 charitable projects.

Among those supported is literacy charity Doorstep Library, which has received £3,000 for books and equipment.

Another is Surrey based Stripey Stork, which supports vulnerable families in the county. It has been handed £6,455 to make upgrades to its warehouse facility for items to five to families.

Meanwhile, the Disabled Sailors Association has received £6,800 for a new dinghy to support its work to ensure people of all abilities can sail in wheelchair accessible boats.

“The charities we support have a truly transformational impact on people’s lives at a local level and many of them have a personal meaning to our sponsors, so it is a both a pleasure and privilege to assist the incredible work they do,” said VINCI UK Foundation head coordinator Ruth Ottley.

Among recipients of grants last year was Soundabout Inclusive Choirs, which received more than £4,000 for equipment.
