Oxfam has become the first charity to launch a UK wide clothing rental service

The service is being piloted by the charity and focuses on items for special occasions for people to rent, including unique dresses and men’s suits.

Every item has been donated to the charity, professionally cleaned and prepared by Oxfam’s partner for the initiative Advanced Clothing Solutions (ACS).

People can rent the items for two weeks and then send it back to the charity by post through a QR Code.

Prices start at £22 for a two-week rental, rising to just over £100 for some suits, including tailcoat suits for weddings, and £80 for some dresses, by designers including Bruce Oldfield, Jenny Yoo and Carolina Herrera.



Julie Tyrell, Head of E-Commerce & Retail Sustainability at Oxfam, said: "We see pieces come through our shops that you simply won't find anywhere else - and until now, the only way to own one was to buy it outright.

"Rental means people can access that wardrobe for the moment they actually need it and then not let it just sit in a cupboard afterwards.

“This is another interesting option which gives people access to pieces that are genuinely different, without adding to that wear-once cycle.

"If our pilot shows people want to rent rather than buy for a single occasion, that's a real shift in how clothes get used, not just where they come from."
