Most online giving is via mobile phones for the first time

Most one-off and regular giving to charities online is taking place via mobile phones for the first time, latest figures from online donation platform goDonate suggest

Based on analysis of £30m worth of donations to UK charity websites, goDonate found that just under three in five one off donations were made from mobile phones during 2025, compared to two in five the previous year.

While most regular online donations already took place via phone in 2024, figures for 2025 show this has increased too, from three in five to more than two thirds.

Its analysis also found that digital wallets now account for almost half (49%) of one off donations, an increase from 45% in 2024.

goDonate chief executive Vicky Reeves says that the data shows that “donor behaviour is clearly shifting”.

“Supporters are increasingly giving on mobile, using faster payment methods and responding to journeys that feel simpler, more relevant and easier to complet,” she said.

“For us, that reinforces a clear view: in a tougher market, the quality of the donation experience matters more than ever.

“Charities must design for mobile-first giving and reduce friction during the donor journey. It also means offering digital wallets as part of the wide range of donation options supporters expect; making regular giving an easy option to boost overall income; and understanding why donors give then tailoring their experience accordingly.”

goDonate’s analysis also found that one off donation volume rose by almost a fifth between 2024 and 2025 “despite a difficult market overall, with lower giving, fewer donors and more selective support among the key problems charities currently face”.
