Met Office seeks new charity partner

The Met Office is on the hunt for a new charity partner for the next three years.

The weather research organisation has launched the search as its current partnership with The Wildlife Trusts comes to an end.

The deadline from applications from interested charities is Friday 13 June.

“Having a corporate charity partner is integral to the Met Office's mission and values. Our corporate charity partnerships enhance our role as a responsible organisation and strengthen our connection with the community,” said the Met Office.

Once the applications have closed a shortlist of charities will be drawn. They will be invited to a staff event at its Exeter HQ on 2 July where they will present a five-minute video to employees, who will then vote for the next charity partner.

The staff vote runs from 7-25 of July. All charities involved will be notified by August and the partnership is set to begin in September.

Met Office charity partnerships manager Jon Stanford added: “As well as a commitment to fundraising, our chosen charity will also receive other benefits from a partnership with the Met Office.”

“Over the years, we have had the privilege of collaborating with several remarkable charity partners, including Surfers Against Sewage, RNLI, WaterAid, and ShelterBox. Each partnership has brought unique opportunities for engagement and impact.

“The successful charity can expect our support through social media channels, as well as being provided with free ad space on our website. In the past, we have also been involved in joint research projects with our corporate charity.

During its three-year partnership with The Wildlife Trusts the Met Office has exceeded its initial fundraising target of £20,000. A symbolic tree planting ceremony has taken place to mark the ending of the partnership.
