London Marathon breaks its fundraising record and reveals next charity partner

This year’s TCS London Marathon has raised more than £75m, a new world record for an annual one-day fundraising event.

This surpasses its previous world record set last year, when £67m was raised on the day of the event and the final total was £73.5m.

A final total for this year’s fundraiser, which took place last month, will be announced in September.

Of this funding total raised so far, £34m was collected through the event’s fundraising platform Enthuse.

“A truly inspiring day, marked by another record-breaking total raised for charities,” said Enthuse founder and chief executive Chester Mojay-Sinclare.

Meanwhile, £41m was donated via the JustGiving platform.

Hugh Brasher, chief executive of London Marathon organisers London Marathon Events, added: “This fantastic news means that we have already exceeded our own world record of £73.5 million from 2024 as the world’s biggest one-day annual fundraising event.

“That is a wonderful achievement and huge thanks to every single person who fundraised and to all those who donated to a huge array of charitable causes.”

“As we saw last year, the total will continue to grow as many donations come in after the event weekend.”

This year’s event also broke the world record for the most finishers in a marathon after 56,640 completed the course in the capital.

Marie Curie named 2026 charity partner

Organisers have revealed that Marie Curie will be the 2026 event’s charity of the year. The end of life care charity is aiming to recruit 1,300 participants to take part and raise £2m.

Marie Curie chief medical officer Dr Sarah Holmes said the charity is “incredibly proud” to be named the event’s charity of the year.

“The funds and awareness raised from the partnership will help us spotlight Marie Curie’s expertise in end-of-life care and shine a light on the profound impact that specialist care and support can have on those facing any terminal illness,” she said.

“As a doctor, I see firsthand the difference that the right kind of end-of-life care can make on someone in their final days, weeks and months – and the lasting effect it has on family and friends left behind.

“Our nurses, doctors and support teams provide vital care and support 365 days a year – whether that be in people’s homes or in a hospice – by protecting people’s dignity and ensuring those final moments are pain-free and as peaceful as possible.

Supporting Marie Curie’s involvement are professional dancers and TV personalities AJ and Chris Pritchard.

“We lost our amazing Nana during Covid, and we know how incredibly vital organisations like Marie Curie can be in your hour of need,” they said.

Brasher added: “We hope that this opportunity means Marie Curie can raise the funds and awareness needed to support more people facing a terminal illness with the end of life care they need.”

Next year’s event will take place on Sunday 26 April. More information on how to apply for a place to support the charity at the event is available here.
