Insurer hands small grants to 150 charities

Insurer Benefact Group has handed 150 charities £1,000 each as part of its Movement for Good Awards.

The funding is the latest set of awards through the scheme, which is worth £1m a year to good causes.

For this latest round member of the public were asked to nominate charities.

Among those to benefit is London based Bipolar UK , youth homelessness charity Gloucestershire Nightstop and Scotland’s Saturday Café Club, which runs activities for children with disabilities.

A total of 15,000 charities shared 245,000 nominations from supporters. The winning charities were picked at random from those nominated.

This year a total of 420 charities have been handed £1,000 donations through the insurer’s award scheme.

“We would like to thank every single person who took the time to nominate a good cause as part of our Movement for Good Awards,” said the insurer’s group chief executive Mark Hews.

“We know that £1,000 can make a huge difference to the incredible work that charities do and we’re looking forward to seeing how this financial boost will change lives for the better.”
