In the role she will lead the charities efforts to increase awareness of the impact of smell and taste disorders in people’s lives, especially in their mental health.
Another priority is to oversee the charity’s support to people experiencing the disorder and work with with scientists on research projects. The charity already provides guidance to the NHS on the disorder.
Among Ardagh-Ptolomey’s previous roles are head of community services at Shelter, regional development manager at Cats Protection and area branch development manager for the RSPCA’s operations in Devon and Cornwall.
AbScent founder Chrissi Kelly said: “I am delighted to have Esther on board, and she will bring so much experience to our leadership team. Esther has great natural empathy combined with strong, clear leadership and will steer us with her vision. As we continue this period of exponential growth Esther will shape our charity for the future and drive our focus.
"Esther will be part of championing the reappraisal of smell loss as a severe condition and serve as a catalyst for greater understanding of the olfactory process the world over.”
Ardagh-Ptolomey added: “While we help to grow the basis of science and smell, we never take our eyes off those people whom AbScent helps day in and day out. I feel privileged to be part of this team and look forward to exciting times ahead.”
