Charity Commission ‘fast tracks’ registration of mobile app that helps bereaved children

A tech start up that uses a mobile app to support bereaved children has announced it has been fast tracked for registration by the Charity Commission.

Apart of Me launched as a mobile and tablet app-based game to help children cope with grief in 2018.

This week it announced that its charitable status has been recognised by the regulator, which has placed it on the charity register.

Apart of Me says that the Commission has fast tracked its application due to the rise in the number of children grieving the loss of a family member amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Having our registration expedited by the Charity Commission not only confirms the urgency of our mission, but it will also allow us to fundraise and accelerate towards our goal of helping every grieving young person transform their grief into compassion,” said Apart of Me co-founder Louis Weinstock.

She added: “When we launched Apart of Me a couple of years ago, little did we know how badly it would be needed today, with so many children and young people left grieving for loved ones as a result of Covid-19.

Since 2018 the app has been downloaded 100,000 times and was recently recognised with an award through the London Mayor’s Resilience Fund to help communities in the capital recover from the health crisis.
