Christian funder Stewardship has handed out £100,000 of cost-of-living micro grants to small charities and churches supporting communities impacted by rising costs.

The money has been awarded through its Cost-of-Living Response Fund scheme that launched two months ago.

Charities and church groups to receive money so far include Life Church Ministries Bradford, to distribute toys to children and help families meet rising energy costs.

Edge Ministries is using its grant to provide warm spaces and food to communities in Staveley and Tupton in Derbyshire.

Meanwhile, East of England based C3 Church is using its funding to distribute food, blankets and hot water bottles to families.

“The need in our communities remains acute so we will continue to do all that we can to raise and distribute crucial funds for emergency relief, including food banks and debt relief centres, and to help churches and charities keep their doors and warm spaces open," said Stewardship chief executive Stewart McCulloch..

Stewardship is also involved in the Warm Welcome campaign, which involves more than 4,000 churches and community groups and the handing out of £200,000 to help cover the cost of running warm spaces this winter.

“We recognise that many organisations will need additional support in order to offer their community a Warm Welcome, and we’ve been encouraging those with resources to make them available for this purpose,” said Warm Welcome campaign manager David Barclay.
