Foundation Scotland reaches £130m funding milestone

Foundation Scotland has handed out more than £130m in funding to charities, social enterprises and community groups across Scotland since its launch 25 years ago.

The funding milestone has been announced to coincide with the community foundation’s 25th anniversary today (November 30).

“We are proud to be Scotland’s community foundation,” said Foundation Scotland’s chief executive Giles Ruck.

“For 25 years, we’ve maintained the vision of supporting confident, thriving, resilient communities across Scotland.”

He added: “As we look ahead, Foundation Scotland remains dedicated to supporting incredible local groups operating in the heart of communities.

"We will continue to work hard to reach and connect with new donors keen to distribute funds effectively at a local level so that together we can continue to deliver extraordinary support.”

Foundation Scotland supports an average of 2,000 good causes each year, including food banks, youth groups and counselling services.

Among those supported is the Linwood Community Development Trust, which has received more than £300,000 over the last decade.

The Trust’s community programme manager Kirsty Flannigan said: “When we formed 10 years ago, little did we know of the journey that lay ahead of us.

“Foundation Scotland believed in our vision when many others did not. Their support at that time was vital to enable us as an organisation to create the initial business plan to get our project started. Also, to be given the support to learn and develop skills to enable us to deliver on our vision for the community.”

She added that the foundation was one of its founding funders and “we have continued to develop that relationship over the years, giving us the opportunity to progress our project through many changes and challenges”.

Foundation Scotland provided record breaking funding of more than £32m to charities across the last 18 months, according to figures released last month.
