Cats Protection CEO steps down to take on global animal welfare role

The chief executive of Cats Protection is stepping down to lead a global coalition for animal welfare groups.

James Yeates is to join the World Federation for Animals (WFA) in October after three years as CEO for UK based Cats Protection.

He trained as a vet and his previous roles include director of resources and chief veterinary officer at the RSPCA.

Yeates said that the WFA is “the most important coalition for animals in a generation”.

“I am exceptionally proud and incredibly excited to be a part of it. Humans and animals face the biggest challenges we have ever encountered. We need to tackle these challenges with empathy, collaboration and compassion. I look forward to working with so many heroes of animal advocacy across the world.”

WFA president Britta Riis added: “We’re excited to have such a passionate, qualified and experienced person joining our team at the WFA.

“As CEO, James will oversee the Federation’s advocacy strategy, develop membership recruitment and engagement strategies, and serve as the public face of the WFA and its vision for animal welfare.”

The WFA was founded by 19 global animal protection organisations including the Africa Network for Animal Welfare, the American Anti-Vivisection Society, the RSPCA and Compassion in World Farming.
