Consultation on the Code of Good Governance hits halfway point

The consultation on refreshing the Code of Good Governance is now half way
through its duration and has received 170 responses, as at October 20.

The consultation was launched in September to gain input as to how the code could
be made more accessible and applicable to all organisations in the third sector.

The consultation also aims to determine how the Code could be given more
meaning and become a more effective standard to encourage best practice in the
third sector's governance.

The steering group were surprised to find that so far only 73% of respondents had
heard of the Code of Good Governance, but responses have been strongly in favour of the refashioned principles.

88% of respondents prefer the refashioned principles of the Code whilst 90% feel
that the new Code is clear and captures the essence of good governance within the
sector.

It was also promising to see that respondents also feel it is highly practical
with only 2% stating that they would not use the refreshed Code.

Lindsey Driscoll, chair of the steering group, commented: "The response to the
refashioned principles so far has been incredibly positive at this halfway stage. We
look forward to receiving many more responses over the next month to gain a fuller
picture of the sector's views on the refreshed Code."
