New guide navigates government funding

The new Government Funding Guide published by the Directory of Social Change tracks 150 local authorities and £2.2 billion of funding from over 200 central government departments.

Each chapter provides a breakdown of how each level of government funds the voluntary sector.

Government funding is complex and each level of government different. The guide provides an overview of government policy and funding practice to make it easier to connect with statutory funders.

Author Sarah Johnston said: "In comparison with grant-making charities, statutory funding is constantly evolving. This guide enables fundraisers to engage with statutory funders in what is a fast paced and competitive environment."

The Government is the largest provider of funding to the voluntary sector.

Understanding how it supports the sector should be any fundraisers first priority.

Major developments such as the devolution of spending power from central to local and regional levels of government make this a crucial time in terms of local spending towards the voluntary and community sector. This guide will give you the resources to create and maintain successful funding relationships with a cross-section of statutory funders.

The Government Funding Guide by Sarah Johnston is priced at £35 and available at www.dsc.org.uk
