Children in Need opens small grants programme

BBC Children in Need has launched a small grants programme to complement its main grants scheme.

Successful organisations will receive up to £10,000 over three years, an amount that Children in Need deems enough to achieve "significant and valuable work".

Comprising four rounds per year, the first deadline for applications is January 15th, with decisions expected in April.

David Ramsden, chief executive of BBC Children in Need, said: "The small grants programme is an especially important part of our grant-making; it helps us to connect with organisations which are at the heart of local communities and ensures our grants reach as many projects as possible."

The charity has also redesigned its application process to encourage more organisations and projects to apply for grants.

Other deadlines for the small grants programme are April 15, July 15 and October 15.

BBC Children in Need's 2009 appeal raised £20,309,747 for disadvantaged young people across the UK.
