BSS chief to lead Field Lane Foundation

The Field Lane Foundation has appointed Peter Calderbank as chief executive.

Calderbank joins from Broadcasting Support Services, where he has been chief executive for the past 12 years. He succeeds Field Lane interim chief executive David Hucker who joined the charity in July.

Founded in 1841, the Field Lane Foundation provides services such as sheltered accommodation, support for homeless people and residential nursing care. The charity had income of £4.4m in the year to March 2014, according to Charity Commission filings.

Calderbank began his career in the commercial sector after qualifying as a chartered accountant. Following a number of commercial finance roles, he joined BSS as finance director, before being appointed chief executive in 2002.

“Caring for the vulnerable has always been extremely important to me,” Calderbank said. “Field Lane provides a unique combination of care, accommodation and support for adults with learning disabilities, vulnerable families and children and for older people.”

Hucker joined the charity on an interim basis and has worked with Calderbank through the leadership transition.

“Peter is joining at a good time, with the organisation re-focused and looking to build on its strengths,” Hucker said. “Our strategic partnership with Surrey County Council will provide the opportunity to grow the business and two new projects are already in the pipeline.”
