Volunteering England launches volunteer management campaign

Volunteering England, the volunteer development charity, has launched its Value Volunteer Management Campaign to increase awareness of the value and importance of investing in volunteer management.

Volunteering England also launched a Volunteer Management Portal http://www.volunteering.org.uk/vmportal that acts as a gateway to the world of volunteer management with links to over a thousand resources across England.

For the first time, information on support, training and development opportunities for people managing volunteers is available to view in one single place.

Both these initiatives were funded through Capacitybuilders' Volunteer Management Programme.

Organisations are being asked to sign up and endorse the Value Volunteer Management Campaign via the website.

Many key organisations, including the BBC, Microsoft, Barnardo's, RSPB, National Trust and PDSA, have already shown their support by signing up and contributing online videos, case stories, and interviews about their experiences with Volunteer Management.

These can be found at http://www.volunteering.org.uk/valuevolunteermanagement

Justin Davis Smith, chief executive of Volunteering England, said: "Motivating, supporting and empowering people who are giving up their time freely is a hugely skilful task, yet as a profession, volunteer managers remain scandalously under-recognised and under-resourced.

"We are calling specifically on Chief Executives, Director Generals, Vice Chancellors and other key decision-makers in volunteer-involving organisations from all three sectors to recognise that it is in their interest to invest in volunteering if they are to unleash the contribution that volunteers bring."
