OCS commissions Urban Forum to provide policy advice

The Office for Civil Society (OCS) has commissioned Urban Forum to provide policy advice to help it deliver its plans for localism and the Big Society.

Urban Forum, a former strategic partner whose grant was not renewed, will provide advice on the opportunities, challenges and needs of local community groups in areas of urban deprivation.

Part of this work will involve focusing on four specific aspects of the government’s plans for Big Society & Localism; neighbourhood planning, community organisers, community rights and open government.

The grant is for £60k and the work will be completed by the end of this financial year.

Urban Forum chief executive, Toby Blume, said: "We are delighted that OCS has recognised the value of Urban Forum’s expertise and insight into the needs, ambition and perception of grass roots groups and we welcome the opportunity to contribute directly to their work. After the disappointment of not having our strategic partner status renewed, we are pleased that the Minister has decided to commission us to provide this policy advice."
