Former CAF research luminary leads transformation of GuideStar

Dr Catherine Walker has been revealed as the new head of research for GuideStar UK.

Graham Leigh, head of GuideStar Data Services, said: "Catherine is a leading expert in the world of voluntary sector research, with a distinguished background in both academic and applied research.

"With her on board we can demonstrate to our clients and to charities that we can provide high quality, meaningful data on the third sector. We're absolutely thrilled that she is joining the team."

Prior to this appointment, Catherine was best known for her previous role as Head of Research for the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).

She holds a PhD in Economic Psychology from the University of Exeter, and is the author of a number of authoritative publications on charitable giving and civil society, including A Lot of Give and Charity Trends.

On accepting the position, Walker said: "This is an incredible opportunity to really revolutionise the research that GuideStar does and the data it provides. The Directory of Social Change already has a fantastic reputation for providing information, and the synergy between DSC and GuideStar offers huge potential. I'm really excited about the future."

The new relationship between DSC and GuideStar seeks to achieve a step change in the quality and accessibility of information available about charities, voluntary organisations, social enterprises and other not-for-profit groups.

Dr Walker's knowledge and expertise will be central to making this a reality.
