FaithAction, a national network of Faith based and Community organisations, celebrated its
fifth Birthday on 10th May in an evening reception at Portcullis House.
The reception, hosted by Gavin Shuker MP and Gary Streeter MP, was introduced by Daniel Singleton, the National Executive Director of FaithAction who opened up the evening
stressing the importance of Faith based organisations.
He said: “Over 30,000 Faith based organisations registered at the Charity Commission and some organisations we know are not registered and their work goes on under the radar.”
“Faith reaches the parts that no-one else can, so when it comes to ideas around Big Society, Good society or Fair Society there are ripe examples within faith communities but
effectiveness and reach of Faith is second to none.
"Faith is often the first in and the last to leave and there are lessons to learn from faith groups about how to create community which is ultimately what we need to foster in the UK today.”
FaithAction also used the opportunity to launch its response to the Big Society with a
publication entitled How to eat an elephant.
The document, written by Daniel Singleton highlights the role that faith groups have in the
Big Society.
Upon launching the document, Daniel said “Like or loath it, Big Society has certainly changed the nature of debate – which we feel gives faith greater room within the
public space.”
“Big society has to start and end with the small acts of individuals”
