Commission for the Compact launches new service

A new Compact implementation service offering impartial, independent and expert advice has been launched by the Commission for the Compact.

The Compact Implementation Consultancy Service (CICS) is a pilot project running until March 2011.

The service is currently open to all local authorities, public bodies and voluntary sector organisations in the West Midlands that are using the Compact partnership working agreement at a local level.

The support offered through CICS includes:

• Expert advice
• Guidance materials
• Practical assistance
• Training
• Examples of good practice

Sir Bert Massie CBE, commissioner for the Compact, said: “The Commission for the Compact has developed the Compact Implementation Consultancy Service (CICS) to encourage better implementation of the Compact at a local level.

"The Compact principles and commitments continue to provide a framework for managing partnership working between the public and voluntary sectors. We hope that CICS will help equip Local Compact partners with the knowledge and advice they need to ensure effective partnership working in their area. “

Dawn Carr, implementation adviser at the Commission, who heads up the service, added: “Compact implementation requires a commitment to follow through on agreed shared principles. Advice and practical support for Compact Champions and commissioners is essential in developing public services.

"We aim to provide a speedy response to queries about the Compact that will assist public bodies in making fair and reasonable decisions about local services. Providing the necessary tools and practical support at a local level will help to increase civil engagement and develop the Big Society.”
