Citizens Advice Scotland backs Police campaign

Citizens Advice Scotland are backing a national campaign which has been launched today by Police Scotland.

The ‘Beat Bogus Callers’ campaign will run for the next two weeks, and will use radio adverts, booklets and posters to advise people against opening their door to unexpected callers, and offering advice on what you should do if you become suspicious.

Action Days will be held in communities across Scotland, with local CAB staff joining with police officers and other community groups to talk to people about the campaign.

Margaret Lynch, chief executive of Citizens Advice Scotland, said: “The CAB service plays a vital role in every community across Scotland, not just advising people on things like money, rights and consumer issues, but also in how to stay safe and avoid falling victim to crime.

"So we welcome the opportunity to support this excellent campaign. It complements the work we are already doing in helping people to spot and beat scams and con-artists.

“So for the next 2 weeks we will be working with police officers and other groups like Trading Standards, to spread the message of this campaign – which is all about just being careful and vigilant, and reporting any callers you are suspicious of.

"We want rogue callers to know that the whole community is watching them, so that they think twice about knocking on your door.”
