Rob Wilson loses seat

Former Minister for Civil Society Rob Wilson has lost his Reading East seat in the 2017 General Election.

Meanwhile Labour's Shadow Minister for Civil Society Steve Reed has held his Croydon North seat with an improved majority and over 74 per cent of the vote.

Conservative MP Wilson was handed the civil society brief in September 2014 after his predecessor Brooks Newmark resigned, having been caught sending explicit messages to an undercover reporter.

Wilson returned to Parliament on an increased majority following the 2015 General Election, and continued as Minister for Civil Society.

He held the post after a reshuffle following Theresa May's elevation to Prime Minister, which saw civil society transferred from the Cabinet Office to the Department for Media, Culture and Sport.

Labour's Matt Rodda has claimed the Reading East constituency, attracting 49 per cent of the vote. Wilson claimed 42 per cent of the vote.
