SUSTAINABLE FUNDING SCHEME TO BEGIN IMPROVING PROFILE 09/09/03

The NCVO Sustainable Funding Project (SFP) is to begin working in partnership with infrastructure agencies and funders to raise awareness of income generation.

Funded in partnership with the Community Fund's Strategic Grants Progamme, Centrica, and Charity Bank, the SFP intends to make best practice in the area of sustainability more widely available to voluntary groups, ensuring long-term change in the way the sector is funded.

Hosted by NCVO over the last three years, the initial phase of the SFP sought to provide information and resources on building sustainability through the promotion of better planning, grant diversification and income generation.

It has helped to establish an environment within the voluntary and community sector which is starting to become less reliant on short-term funding regimes and more responsive to the development of financial stability.

Nick Wilkie, SFP manager says: "Building on the lessons learnt over the past three years, we are delighted to expand the range of services the project provides to voluntary and community organisations, and develop new work with local infrastructure agencies, funders and policymakers to embed our work lessons within the sector over the long-term."

Richard Gutch, director for England and strategic planning at the Community Fund comments: "Sustainability is one of the biggest challenges facing the sector and it is crucial we address it.

"The Community Fund is delighted to be helping by funding the NCVO's Sustainable Funding Project. We have been very impressed by the work of the project to date."

The SFP is a "first-stop shop" on sector funding issues providing a full range of financial options for organisations to investigate how they can generate their own income.
