PROMISE THAT FUNDING REVIEW WILL CHANGE SCOTLAND'S SECTOR 04/02/03

The Scottish Council of Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) has pledged to ensure the planned review of sector funding will make a "practical difference" to charities' work.

The review will examine all issues involved in voluntary sector funding, including money from public sector sources, the National Lottery, grantmaking trusts and public fundraising.

It is being jointly undertaken by the SCVO, the Scottish Executive, and CoSLA (Convention of Scottish Local Authorities), and aims to find ways for the sector norht of the border to develop more sustainability.

SCVO chief executive Martin Sime says: "Together, I believe we can make a real and practical difference to the voluntary sector and its vital work for many of our most vulnerable citizens."

Social Justice Minister Margaret Curran admits that "complicated funding arrangements" may be hampering the full potential of the sector, saying: "I hope this review will result in a more efficient delivery of services to the most deprived."
