PAYROLL GIVING CONSORTIUMS ENCOURAGED BY GRANTS 12/03/04

A consortium of four Yorkshire charities has been launched to encourage local businesses to set up payroll giving schemes for their employees.

Set up by the Diocese of Sheffield, Charities Together is one of six start-up charity consortiums to which The Giving Campaign is awarding grants in a bid to help smaller groups collaborate on payroll giving.

Karen Hubbard, fundraising manager for the Diocese of Sheffield, says: "Employers sometimes find that dealing with a large number of charities is time consuming and can be confusing.

"Charities Together represents four charities working on projects ranging from neighbourhood regeneration to helping people who are going through divorce and separation.

"By dealing with Charities Together, employers only have to work with one organisation, rather than a representative from each charity, yet can still offer choice to their employees."

The Giving Campaign has published a free toolkit with guidelines about setting up a charity consortium and tips for gaining the support of local businesses.
