NEW LOTTERY DISTRIBUTOR BOSS IS UNVEILED 24/11/03

Stephen Dunmore is the chief executive to lead the new lottery distributor being created from the merging of the New Opportunities Fund and the Community Fund.

The new distributor, to be created by spring next year, will be the biggest of the National Lottery good cause distributors. Stephen Dunmore will steer the merging UK organisations into a new distributor delivering half of the National Lottery good cause funding to communities.

He has been chief executive of the New Opportunities Fund for the last five years, and his appointment, which takes effect from December 1, will enable the planning for development of the work of the new distributor to move forward rapidly.

He says: "Leading the merger of the two Funds will be a tremendous challenge, which I very much welcome. We now need to move rapidly to integrate the two organisations and prepare for the arrival of the new, co-terminous board in April.

"The merged distributor will play a lead role in implementing the government's agenda to transform Lottery distribution and ensure the benefits of funding reach communities, to promote social inclusion and to explore new ways of engaging the voluntary and community sector."

The New Opportunities Fund and the Community Fund are currently working together to facilitate the transition towards the new distributor announced by the Secretary of State, Tessa Jowell, in July. The new year will see the appointment of a new chair and the administrative merger is expected to take place by April of next year.
