MORE MAJOR APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED FOR NEW LOTTERY GROUP 06/01/04

Two key players in the senior management team set up for the controversial new lottery funds distributor have been announced.

Both posts at the new distributor, which will be created through a merger of The New Opportunities Fund and the Community Fund, are in the important role of director.

Gerald Oppenheim, formerly director of policy and communications at the Community Fund, takes up the post of director, planning and performance, while Vanessa Potter, formerly the director of policy and external relations for the New Opportunities Fund, will carry out the same function in the new team.

Stephen Dunmore, chief executive of the new organisation, says the appointments will enable plans to move ahead speedily towards the group's planned spring launch.

He comments: “The combined expertise and experience that Gerald Oppenheim and Vanessa Potter bring to the new distributor are appreciated across the New Opportunities Fund and the Community Fund.

"This announcement will help pave the way for the integration of the two organisations and prepare for the arrival of the new, co-terminus board in spring 2004.

“The continuity which Gerald and Vanessa provide will also reassure both Funds’ stakeholders, partners and customers that we will continue to deliver funding for the benefit of communities across the UK."

The new body aims to play a lead role in implementing the government’s agenda to transform lottery distribution to ensure that the benefits of funding reach communities, to promote social inclusion and partnership working, and to explore new ways of engaging the voluntary sector. It will distribute half of all National Lottery funding.
