The
Institute of Fundraising has announced that charities minister Fiona Mactaggart
is to make the opening keynote speech at its National Convention 2004.
CEO of the Institute, Lindsay Boswell, says the decision to invite Mactaggart
was taken because she has shown "real energy and commitment" to
the sector since taking up her post.
He comments: "Her previous experience within the sector combined with
her honest no-nonsense approach makes her an ideal speaker in a really challenging
year for fundraising.
"In 2004 we have the likely introduction of self-regulation for fundraising.
We will also have a new charities bill, which will affect fundraising. At
the same time there are serious issues facing fundraising.
"The minister’s speech will be perfectly timed to comment and challenge
us on all of these issues."
Chair of the convention, Julius Wolff-Ingham comments: “As a head of fundraising
myself, I am concerned that there are clear communications between the government
and fundraisers.
"With so much going on in the coming year, Fiona Mactaggart has recognised
that the convention is the perfect platform to outline these issues and
share her views. I’ve also invited her to meet specifically a gathering
of senior fundraisers during the event.”
The Convention aims to offer fundraisers a unique opportunity to learn,
compare best practice, network, and become motivated to do their job better.
