A
new interim chair will be appointed to lead the Community Fund and New Opportunities
Fund through the period of merger into a new lottery distributor.
The chairs of the Community Fund and the New Opportunities Fund have jointly
welcomed the announcement by Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell, and said it
was a tangible step forward in the creation of the new lottery distributor.
Both chairs have agreed to stand down.
The New Opportunities Fund and the Community Fund are currently working
together to facilitate the transition to the new lottery distributor announced
by the Secretary of State, Tessa Jowell, in July.
Recruitment for new interim Boards, as well as a new Chair, is also underway.
Both distributors focus on improving the quality of the life of communities
and on disadvantage.
Jill Pitkeathley, chair of the New Opportunities Fund, says: “In five short
years at the helm of the Fund, 47 separate programmes have been rolled out
producing lasting results across communities.
"I have been delighted by the impact lottery money can make when it
is used effectively and strategically across sectors. The strengths of both
organisations are a brilliant foundation for the new Chair to take forward
in the single distributor that is currently being forged.”
Diana Brittan, Chair of the Community Fund, comments: “Our grants have been
a lifeline to hundreds of voluntary and community organisations up and down
the UK who work in their various ways to alleviate disadvantage.
"I’m personally proud of the work we have done at a very local level
to improve access to lottery money. The new chair and board will have a
tremendous opportunity to make the new distributor a springboard for the
innovative and progressive use of lottery players’ money.”
