GETTING CHEAPER POWER COULD MEAN MORE CASH FOR CHARITY 11/02/03

The current trend for the public to regularly switch utility suppliers could be set to raise up to £100m for the charity sector.

A new scheme from Fundraising Innovations will donate up to £40 to charity each time a household changes its supplier of gas or electricity - the money coming from the commission it earns from the winning supplier.

It is estimated that up to 2.6m UK households will make the switch each year and, if just 10% do so through this scheme, up to £100m could be raised for charity.

The service is being run via a website, which provides all the options available for users interested in changing (such as prices, customer service ratings and special offers), as well as an online form to complete the switch.

Fundraising Innovatins director Mark Todd says: "A charity with 100,000 supporters could raise up to £180,000 each year, if 5% of their supporter base switched through this scheme."
